The stories our country has told us about certain people distort our perceptions and create self-fulfilling stereotypes of low performance. If we change our stories, we can change the way we think about children and the ways they think about themselves. Improving student performance is not just a matter of increasing rigor. We must develop a different set of lenses to really see the brilliance of the children before us.
